ORANGE--WHAT A COLOR!!

Now the color orange and I do not usually get along--
the only thing I like to see orange is pumpkins--
and then only in Fall--
but--
I have to say that that color is breaking through--
I noticed that I actually have a t-shirt with orangey colored flowers
on it in 2 shades--and today at the grocery store I almost picked up a pot
of orange dahlia's!!! (and they did have other colors there--wow!!)

Last night I did get this months orange cat appliqued--
and then this morning I got the log cabin block that goes with him sewn--
and so I kept going--
and got the strip block done that goes with the bird block done--
and then as I was on a roll--
I got the bird block done too--
So how's all my dear friends doing???
are you finishing up your 'orange' projects???

I also did get the Ghost wall hanging basted and started quilting it this afternoon--
so have been on a roll here---
but am still a couple projects short for the month of Sept--ouch!!!

SEWING RIGHT ALONG--

I have been busy working on two different projects--
both have to do with the month of "October"--
and that is only 5 days away--
not sure I will get them finished by then--
but--
first here is the  door hanging that I have been working on for awhile--
and have not showed you any photos of ==I believe--
I have the backing and batting all ready for this one--
I found the pattern for this one in --
Quiltmaker Sept/Oct issue 2017--

and this is the mystery one that I had all the fun of trying to find the right fabrics for--
got  this center part done the other day--
it is hard to make out the details on the orange fabric--
I tried to get closer for you to see--but???
it has cute Halloween designs in black lines on the orange--

This is how it looks now--
This mystery was from the Fort Worth fabric site--
you can stop over there to see theirs--
mine is a bit larger I think--
and brighter--
the orange strips on the outside border is from the same piece of fabric as the center star--
I like it being nice and bright--
I also have the backing and batting ready for this one--
mine has finished out at about 38"x 38"--

and I do have my 'orange' cat ready for applique--
will try to work on that when I get off here--
unless my book gets too loud calling my name!!!

FINALLY--BACK TO THE REGULAR PROGRAM!!

I have alot of unpacking yet to do--
as I packed all my quilts and such in large plastic bags--
and hid them in a hall closet in case a window blew out--
and I am leaving them right in there until hurricane season is over!!!!!!

So--
I have been able to get some sewing done the last couple days--
I redid these blocks--
the large star one--
and--
the 4 corner ones--
I think these bats glow in the dark--
here is the first ones I did--
so a big difference I think--
the orange one in the first photo now and the bat one--
are ones I got at Sunny's shop in Maryland--
and I did get the next set of 10 blocks done today--

so now I can probably finish this top tomorrow--as it was a short mystery one--
and then I really really need to get back to work on my bom's--am almost out of month!!!!

And I did have a package waiting for me when I got home--
Missouri Star had a sale on rotary blades in packs of 5--
and they had gotten in some white snowflake fabric on white background--so needed some for the Christmas bom we just finished and I needed some more of this other line to go with the layer cake I got of it--so got some of that--and the round thing is a tape measure and was a free gift!!!

YOU CAN'T GO BACK--

What does one take when one is evacuating???
Personnel papers and keepsakes--mostly--
and clothes are nice too!!!

and I did take those-
but--
I also took my artificial Christmas tree--

2 small boxes of my good glass stuff--
2 boxes of picture frame mats,
and my sewing machine--
Why you ask--
Wellllllll--
you see --I had thought I could go Back--
I had reapplied to move back into the Jefferson Village apts--
where I lived before moving to Fl--
and they had called with an apt for me for Nov 1st--
so these were items that I did not want to ship back to NY--
so we had planned to leave them up there--
But--
you can't go back---
I had some reasons for wanting to go back--
1. I missed my yarn shop--and taking lessons there and just going there to sit and knit--
2. my doctors office was just one block away--
3. I could walk over town--less than 4 blocks away anytime I wanted
4. eye doctor is only 3 blocks away--
5. a 5 minute ride on a van to get to Walmart and 5 minute ride home--
6. even though there is not a fabric shop in Watkins anymore--there is some nice ones about half hour drive away and I have friends who shop at them and still quilt--
Well--
you can't go back--
My daughter and I visited the Jefferson our first day in NY on Tuesday--
the apt that I was told that would be next to my old one--was not going to be available--after all!
but a corner unit was --the corner units are cold--and the view was not good at all--
soooo--that did not go over well--
and there was a couple other things that left me unsettled that day--

On Wednesday--
I got to be with Anne--we visited her daughter's shop first--then walked to the yarn shop and we sat down to visit in there--and guess what--I had to leave-they got in a new line of soap--smelly stuff!!
so we went out to sit on a bench on the street--we had a lovely visit--but then I remembered why I hated the streets--way way too many semi trucks go through that town (2-lane streets) and the diesel smell was getting  to me--

then we went to a new little cafe for lunch and we had a lovely tuna sandwich and in walked my nurse that gave me my B-12 injections for years and I told her I was moving back and guess what she told me--???--we are closing the office Sept 29th----ouch--
by this time I really was believing that--
You can't go back!!!
and it keep going this way--
so that by Thursday morning when I was suppose to go sign some paper work--
I knew that I could not move back--so did not take the apartment-
and my Christmas tree and all the rest of the stuff came right back to Florida with me!!!
and that is my story and I am sticking to it!!!

So as you can see I had alot of adventures and lots of stress really on this trip--
especially trying to explain to the DD why I had changed my mind--
that was not an easy thing to do!!

So I did get my sewing corner here all cleaned up and the machine set back up--
and today I did do some sewing--
photos tomorrow--
sorry for another long post--but--
wanted you to know--that you can't go back--sometimes--
maybe in the spring or summer-------------------------------!!!!!

CHANGES--

I did get out with the camera today--
and noted alot of changes--
first the view from my bedroom window-
towards the right--the woods--
It was raining when I took this one early this morning--
now I can see that whole house--
before Hurricane Matthew last year--I couldn't see any of it--
then after that one I could see a bit of the roof--
now I get the whole house!!!

And I guess the storm multiplied our ducks--
cause we went from '2'--

to six!!!!
the water in the pond is from the rain early this morning--

I started my photo tour by going out the back door--
guess Nancy's garden took a big hit--she was out there busy cleaning up still--
lots and lots of tree damage--
look here--is a regular tree branch up in a palm tree!!!
our trail that I walked nearly everyday is closed--
my favorite place to knit is closed--
there is these 2 big trees leaning on the railings--
and a electric line is holding them up--
and it does look like we lost alot more of the bank on this side of the ramp-
we lost alot of it last year to Matthew--!!!
this is one of our tall parking lot lights--
funny thing is --it still works!!!
down the street about a block-it looks like the road washed out--
or nearly--and I am pretty sure there was some trees or bushes here--but not now--
first time I have ever seen these piling with out it being full of birds of some kind sitting on them!!
this dock is the next one down from ours--
here is how it looks now--
and--

and here is how it looked before Irma--
the dock area went all around that boat hanging area--!!
this is the dock--was the dock that was to the other side of our dock--
and this dock had just been up graded and had a couple boats on it--
hopefully they removed the boats before the storm--
what is left of a brand new car port!!
this tree took a loss-in that rope was a huge planter and plant--but this tree lost some branches--
and it looked like they have some damage in the back yard--
these are the same people that lost the dock where the boat is still hanging!!
and I think this house has some history!!!
most of the trees now look this this--
and today I learned why--
it is from the 'salt' from the water!!!
Also heard that Patrick Air force base had alot of damage this time for the first time--
but not sure just what--and of course beach side there is alot of buildings damaged--

when I returned from the walk down the street --
I came into the front parking lot and seen this--
I spent a half hour trying to find the owner of this vehicle--
she did take it right to the car wash and luckily it all washed off--
but was some kind of white wash stuff--
apparently is was kids doing something--a couple other cars has a bit on them --
but nothing like poor Ann-Maries car--she said it cost her $8 to wash it--but--
it did all come off!!!  Sad!!!

Ok lets end with a couple good photos --
a couple happy ducks-
and look at someones red car reflection in the pond!!

FLORIDA HAS DECIDED TO MOVE!!!!

WHERE DO I START--

We did alot on the trip up and while in NY--
and then there is the news on what happened here in FL--
Probably should start here--
as everyone is curious about what 'changed' here at home-
at DD's place and here at the senior apts--
I did not get  out to get  any photos today though--
will tomorrow--hopefully--
We are not allowed down on the dock right now--
which is the saddest for me--I want to go down there and chill out from everything and be able to feed my 'friends'--
but 2-3 trees are leaning on the railing going down to the dock and an electrical cord might be involved-- though I think it is an old one they did not cut down and get rid of when they put those big new poles and new wiring in!!!  I do know that the trees that are leaning on the railings are the ones the squirrels loved to climb down to get to the railings--sad--

lots of debris everywhere--we lost some more tree branches all over the property--and some trees are stripped bare of leaves--and the trees look sooo funny as what leaves are left are now brown--!!!
a light pole for our parking lot tipped over and needs to be fixed--and it was right where Frannie used to always park--(talking about Frannie--she is at her son's in Huston, TX this week)

the worse damage to some --several apartments on the river side (my side) the apartment windows leaked and water ran down the walls and wet the carpet--(thankfully mine is dry) so now alot of the tenants have large --very noisy machines running in their apts to dry the walls and carpets out--so they are very uncomfortable with the constant noise and the mild-dew smell--they say--and it is all 4 floors that are involved with that--

the electric was off here for about 9 hours too--but that isn't bad as many where out for 3 days and some places are still without! and there was a couple water main breaks so they had no water a couple times while that was fixed and a few days of 'boil water' notice--but everything there is ok now

DD's rented house did lose some shingles but her landlord already fixed them and cleaned up the yard, ect--no leaks--that was good --her poor neighbor hood looks different though--as does nearly everyplace down here--with sooo many trees and bushes missing now--

we did go get groceries this afternoon and the stores are still not fully stocked, but you can find things to eat and they did have water--we each got 4 gallons today as we don't know what Maria is going to do next week--ouch!!!  and we still have 3-4 weeks of the season to go--remember that Matthew did hit us until Oct 6th or later last year!!!

I hope to be back to more of a normal routine tomorrow and will have lots and lots of photos--
so stay tuned---
Thanks again for all your prayers and concerns--

go out there and --enjoy every moment-di
